This was pretty mutch my first attempt at making a story that wasn't based on humor or action. 18 year old me thought it was quite embarrassing at the time, making something sentimenal and heartfelt. It got a lot of praise and attention though! It won a contest where I entered it, and got several hundred thousand views on the now forgotten content-aggregator StumbleUpon. Looking back it really set the tone for a lot of things i still do in comics, so in some way it's just less embarrassing the more time that passes.
